Greatest identified for his ironic painted slogans, French artist Benjamin Vautier, aka “Ben”, died by suicide aged 88, simply hours after the loss of life of his spouse of 60 years, his household stated Wednesday, June 5.

His spouse Annie suffered a stroke on Monday night and died on Wednesday, the couple’s two youngsters, Eva and François, stated in a press release. “Unwilling and unable to dwell with out her, Ben killed himself just a few hours later at their residence” within the French Mediterranean metropolis of Good.

Born in Naples in 1935, Ben moved to Good aged 14 and spent the remainder of his life there. He was related to the Fluxus motion of the Nineteen Sixties that sought to disrupt what counted as artwork, with a method of street-based, provocative irony that proved extremely influential.
