French President Emmanuel Macron paid tribute on Sunday, August 18, to movie star Alain Delon, who died aged 88, calling him not only a legendary actor however a “monument.”
“Alain Delon performed legendary roles and made the world dream. Lending his unforgettable face to show our lives the wrong way up,” Macron wrote on X, previously Twitter. “Melancholy, common, secretive, he was greater than a star: he was a French monument.”
Fellow Nineteen Sixties star Brigitte Bardot instructed French information company Agence France-Presse (AFP) that his demise left “an enormous void that nothing and nobody will be capable to fill.”
Former president of the Cannes competition Gilles Jacob paid tribute to Delon as “a lion (…) an actor with a steely gaze.” Alberto Barbera, director of the Venice Movie Competition, mentioned he was an “icon” who had climbed “to the Olympus of the immortals.” And French movie producer Alain Terzian mentioned Delon was “the final of the giants.”
