The creator of the movie Cousin Cousine, which triumphed in the US, and former president of the Cinémathèque française, director Jean-Charles Tacchella died in his sleep on Thursday, August 29, in Versailles, aged 98.

Born on September 23, 1925, in Cherbourg, the son of a delivery agent of Italian origin, cinephile Tacchella got here to Paris on the age of 19 to make his mark as a movie critic. In 1949, the 12 months L’Ecran Français handed beneath the management of Lettres Françaises, he based Ciné Digest, a half-popular, half-intellectual journal whose ambition was to permit free expression. It revealed Suzy Delair’s memoirs and a technical evaluation by movie editor Henri Colpi.

Tachella started to show in the direction of the inventive sphere. From 1955 to 1962, he labored as a screenwriter for Yves Ciampi, Christian-Jaque, Jean Dewever, Maurice Ronet and Alexandre Astruc; signed a brief movie in 1969; turned a cleaning soap opera author for tv, and a playwright (three of his performs had been carried out on the Théâtre Mouffetard).
