Derek Horton factors to the “eccentric humour” permeating John Hyatt’s artwork. This was definitely seen in his portray from the start.

Early in his profession, two of his work have been chosen for the Arts Council touring exhibition The British Artwork Present: Previous Allegiances and New Instructions 1979-1984.

One of many present’s selectors, Jon Thompson, famous that John employed “… a type of ‘punning’ pictorialisation during which literary units are used to radicalise the picture, and pictures are used to disrupt the logical circulate of written language”.

Certainly, John’s massive portray, Artwork, Wars, Division and Design, which epitomised this delight within the interaction of picture and phrase, was used on {the catalogue}’s cowl as a pointer to the exhibition’s considerations.
