My husband, Invoice Cove, now 94, served as a Westminster councillor for Alderney ward, Pimlico, with Gery Bramall. He was reluctant to face as we had simply moved home, however Gery mentioned: “Don’t fear Invoice, it’s a Tory ward, we received’t win.”
It was 1962, a Labour landslide, with its councillors in Westminster rising from three to 17.
